Ivanisevic Saves Set Points To Banish Rusedski Challenge

Added on: December 3, 2010

Goran Ivanisevic continued his remarkable run against Greg Rusedski by saving set points in both sets to overcome the Briton 7-6(6), 7-6(6) at the AEGON Masters Tennis in London on Friday.

In Saturday’s semifinals, the big-hitting Croatian could face Pat Rafter in a repeat of their famous 2001 Wimbledon final.

Today’s encounter was the latest instalment in a rivalry between Ivanisevic and Rusedski which dates back to 1994. Ivanisevic won their first nine matches on tour, including a memorable meeting at the Queens Club in 1997 which he edged 20-18 in a final set Tie-Break.

Now on the ATP Champions Tour, the pair continue to lock horns and they treated the crowd to a serve-and-volley masterclass this afternoon. It was Ivanisevic who drew first blood, taking the first set 8-6 in a Tie-Break after Rusedski squandered a 6-4 lead.
