Allplay Challenge to culminate at this year’s AEGON Masters Tennis

Added on: August 9, 2011

allplay is a national campaign, brought to you by the LTA, with a simple goal – to help more people play tennis. Greg Rusedski, who helped launch the campaign in June, said: “I’m backing allplay because it will help people of all abilities play more tennis, from those who have never held a racket, to players looking to get back into the sport and people who have been playing the game for years.”

A key part of the national campaign is the allplay Challenge and its exciting culmination at this year’s AEGON Masters Tennis.

What is the allplay Challenge?

The allplay Challenge follows four well known personalities on a six month journey, involving their friends and families, as they learn to play tennis. Some are complete beginners while others haven’t picked up a racket for years.
The four personalities will help to highlight how easy it is to get involved in tennis and how much fun it can be. You can follow their progress at www.allplaytennis.com.

Who are the personalities?

Olympic heptathlon champion Denise Lewis, TV Presenter Tim Lovejoy, broadcaster Jamie Theakston and TV presenter Lorraine Kelly.
Denise Lewis said: “I can’t wait to take on the allplay challenge. Tennis is a great sport to watch and I’m sure that it will be even more fun to play, especially with the family. I’m a big supporter of helping more people play sport and allplay is set up to help me and others like me get involved in the game.”

TV Presenter Tim Lovejoy added: “I used to play tennis as a kid, and I’ve always wanted to play again. It’s fun, I can play it with my daughters and it will keep me fit. Knowing that I’ve got to play in front of a live audience at the end of the year is pretty daunting, but I’m really looking forward to it.”

What’s the end goal of the allplay Challenge?

The allplay Challengers will be showing off their new skills in front of thousands of spectators at an exhibition doubles match at this year’s AEGON Masters Tennis at the Royal Albert Hall. Keep checking the site for more details on this over the coming months.

Who is behind allplay?

The LTA is leading the project with support from thousands of coaches and volunteers around the country. Former British number one Greg Rusedski has also thrown his support behind the campaign as well as our four allplay Challengers – Lorraine Kelly, Denise Lewis, Jamie Theakston and Tim Lovejoy.
